Meet Ibrahim Nagwamatse, Northern King That Squared Off To Lord Lugard

Image
Warrior King. HRH Ibrahim Nagwamatse (CBE). Sarkin Sudan and First class Emir of Kontagora (1880-1929) pictured here dressed for war. He was the only ruler in Nigerian history who squared off to Lugard, put up a big fight, was arrested and exiled and reinstated back to his throne. Years later, he was awarded the honours of Commander of the British Empire at an elaborate ceremony in Zungeru in 1909 witnessed by all the other Emirs and Chiefs of the Niger Province. He was irrepressible, defiant and remained indomitable in the years of British captivity in Yola and later Lokoja. In his absence, his vast territory became ungovernable to his British conquerors who could not bring the disparate tribes and chiefdoms under his suzerainty to heel. In the end, faced with the inevitable disintegration of the territory, Lugard ate humble pie and reinstalled him back on the throne of his father in 1906. He died peacefully in 1929 and lies buried in the emir’s palace in Kontagora. Happy remembrance...

President Muhammadu Buhari's Best Food(photo)

The best food, drink of Buhari . Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Babankowa is a retired police commissioner. His name might not be familiar, but his action can never be forgotten in the history of Nigeria . It was him, shortly after the 1966 coup, who discovered the bodies of the Prime Minister, Sir Tafawa Balewa and his Finance Minister, Chief Okotie Eboh, who had been taken by the coupists to the outskirts of Lagos, Sango-Ota, and shot dead. A retiree and elder statesman, Babankowa is a close associate of the President Muhammadu Buhari, for the past 43 years. In this interview at his residence in Hadejia Road, Kano, he says the Buhari administration would not disappoint Nigerians.  What is his best food?  Buhari is somebody who will not miss his three square meals, however small the meals may be, just to put something in the stomach, he must eat something. He does not joke with that. Even if we are traveling, provision is always made for that in the car. Do you know Alikama? That is wh...
